Some good football played in great spirits in the sun at Stamford today in the 60+ WFU National Cup Round 1.
Played as a triteam round robin, many congratulations to Norwich who took the honours and go through to round 2.
The lads started strongly and actually dominated the first half against Norwich even though they found themselves 1-0 down at the break.
Norwich pushed 2 ahead in the second half and took the game comfortable when we switched the formation to 1-3-1 to chase the game and left ourselves vulnerable.
The second game was a typical tight Boston v Strollers game. Danny Tempest foiled every effort we had on goal and the game was decided by a well taken effort from distance from Chris Bradford.
A highly enjoyable affair though with three good teams fighting it out in the true spirit of walking football.
A huge thank you to ref Dave Bent for some excellent walking football refereeing (as well as for wearing an orange shirt 😉 )
Best wishes too to Jez Hammant for a speedy recovery as he tweaked his hamstring against Norwich.
RESULTS:
Stamford 0 Norwich 4
Boston 0 Norwich 0
Stamford 0 Boston 1
Squad:
Sergio Aschettino, Colin Kirby, Glyn Williams, Tim Marsden, Tony Leighton, John Hutchins, Jez Hammant, Will Barrett (capt)
