With the sound of demolition of the old John Player Imperial Tobacco factory in the background, the final match day of the inaugural WFA Midlands Premier League brought the season to a close.
At the start of the day Stamford Yellow had an outside chance of 2nd place but a tough opener against unbeaten Bramcote saw the end of this as the league champions galloped into a 3-0 lead and never looked back.
This made it easier on the conscience for the Stamford Whites who also needed to beat Chilwell to give their colleagues a chance of runners up. On paper Chilwell were favourites for this and despite the Whites losing the game 2-0 it was a very tight match and could easily have gone the other way.
Ironically the last game of the season saw the two Stamford teams playing each other and a strong Stamford Yellow continued their recent good form with a stylish 4-2 win. Goals from Gary Wildsmith and Steve Gates.
This meant that at the end of the day Stamford Yellow finished 4th and the Whites 5th.
League champions were Nottingham Bramcote.
