Report from skipper Gary Wildsmith:
Match day 5 saw the much anticipated return matches from Match Day 1 with the Strollers having a point to prove?
Our first game saw us play Oakham. The match was fairly one sided with the Strollers having much of the possession but little to show for their efforts. A deflected long distance effort from Gary Wildsmith did little to settle the nerves. Our ‘friend’ turned opponent for the day Pete Wilkinson scored to equalise with one of the few chances afforded to our nearest local rivals. Another gritty display was topped off by Tim Marsden who stepped up to the plate giving the Strollers a 2-1 victory which did little to show the dominance we displayed.
Unbeaten and second in the league Boston were our next game. As expected a close battle ensued with neither side giving their opponents an easy ride. Tackles were fast and furious (sometimes a little too fast and furious) and chances were few and far between. In the end a solitary Dave Scotney goal in the first half proving the difference between the two sides. An enjoyable but sometimes physical game.
Many thanks to all those who took part. It wasn’t the best day weather or results wise but the fighting spirit was there from the Strollers (albeit taken a little too literally sometimes)
The results leave us in 3rd place currently with 3 match days remaining.
The Boston match up was a crucial game with both teams needing a win to keep the pressure on leaders Bramcote. Manager Taff lovesey commented "We'll have to dig deep now, win our remaining games and hope other results go our way. Not impossible but a tough ask."
