The Asha Healthcare Midlands Over 60s League Matchday 3

Nottingham League Match Day 3 report from skipper Gary Wildsmith

Squad was :-

Trevor Oliver

Graham Curry

John Hutchins

Tim Marsden

Paul Edward Beard

Gary Wildsmith

Stephen Gates

Colin Barrett-Treen

Lying 4th in the league prior to these fixtures we were playing the teams lying 3rd (Leicester) and 1st (Bramcote) so probably the toughest week we could have in this league.

We started brightly against Leicester with Paul Beard giving us an early lead. Despite only having 6 players Leicester defended well and their hard work paid off when they equalised before half time.

A combination of utilising our substitutes and the opponents tiring meant we were able to take control of the second half and further goals from Graham Curry and Stephen Gates returning from a lengthy injury and playing in his first league games this season ensured we ran out 3-1 winners.

The win had left us in high spirits for facing the runaway league leaders who had only conceded 1 goal in their previous 4 games in the league. Bramcote were very comfortable on the ball and showed why they had won every game in the league so far.

A couple of quickly taken free kicks proved our undoing as they scored 2 goals in quick succession. Colin Barrett-Treen replied with a well taken goal to leave us 3-1 down at half time.

We played much better in the second half and a second goal from Colin put us within touching distance of them. Unfortunately it wasn’t our day, Bramcote added a 4th goal running out deserved 4-2 winners.

These results moved us up into 3rd in the league with the half way point coming next month.

Thanks to all those that played and apologies for the late report. At least I managed to get the substitutes right this time around.
