It’s a day for the history books—or at least the pub tales—for Stamford Strollers C team as they finally clinched their first wins of the season in the PDFL.
The squad faced South Lincs Steelers in a nail-biting opener, emerging victorious with a 2-1 triumph. Merryn Kelby netted both goals. Her second goal, a beauty set up by a well weighted pass from defence by Jan Richardson, created an excellent finish.
Keeper Vicky France found herself unsighted for the Steelers goal, and the scoreline uncomfortably close. But a series of fine saves from France kept Strollers in the game to hold firm to secure their first win.
Next up were Harborough Hornets, and this time JT (Jonathan Thompson) slotted home the game’s only goal to seal a 1-0 victory. A special shout-out goes to Jason Fullman, Steve Bavage Crowson, and Jonathan Thompson for stepping in to shore up the team and add some steel to a strong ladies’ lineup of Vikki France, Judith Jagger, Merryn Kelby and Jan Richardson. An excellent team performance.
With two wins out of two games, the Strollers are on a roll—or at least they’re mid-table now, which feels like a win in itself. Cheers to the first victory of the season; may it be the first of many over the remainder of the league season
Strollers 2:1 South Lincs Steelers (Kelby 2)
Strollers 1:0 Harborough Hornets (Thompson)
