Rothwell 1 Strollers 0
Strollers travelled to Rothwell on Tuesday 16th November with a squad of nine players to play a 7 v 7 friendly against Rothwell in a match refereed by Strollers 50+ Manager Grahame Robinson.
Throughout the game Strollers played with a quick tempo (perhaps sometimes slightly too quick eh Grahame?) and showed some crisp passing and good movement which have become the hallmark of the squad over recent tournaments & league games.
It was a game that it is perhaps fair to say that Strollers could, maybe should, have won. In terms of territory, possession, shots on goal and shots on target, Strollers were superior, but a combination of tenacious and determined defence, the woodwork and a big performance by the Rothwell keeper kept the game tight throughout.
This is not to say that Rothwell didn’t create their own chances throughout the game and if you have to lose 1-0 then the first time strike that led to their goal was certainly worthy of being the winner.
An enjoyable evening against a friendly and competitive Rothwell side who were excellent hosts, we look forward to welcoming them back to Stamford for a return fixture in the New Year.
One final mention of note; whilst there was no trophy for the winners of the fixture, the Rothwell team were kind enough to provide a Player of the Match trophy which was awarded to Strollers debutant, Charles Walker.
Congratulations Chas, a great start to your Strollers career!
