Lincs League Match Day 3

60+ report

A good week for our 60+ lads. Although they lost to run-away leaders Grimsby the lads beat Spilsby 5-3 to set up a chance of finishing as runners up next week.

Dave Barry scored 2, Bob Lear 2 and John Hutchins 1 in the game v Spilsby.

Bob Lear scored the solitary goal in the 1-5 defeat to Grimsby from a defence splitting pass from Colin K (or so he tells me) :-)

Fingers crossed that the lads can complete the job next week and take the runners up trophy.

Squad: T Oliver (gk), C Kirby (capt), B Lear, D Barry, J Hutchins, I Cooke, Lewis T

L 1-5 v Grimsby (B Lear)

W 5-3 v Spilsby (D Barry 2, B Lear 2, J Hutchins)

50+ Report

A bad night for us.

The first game was against our friends at Boston. As usual it was a tight game but we got off to an appalling start with a goal against us inside 10 seconds!

With both teams playing some good football this one could easily have been 5-5 but another fine display by Danny in goal for Boston and some bad luck against the woodwork on three occasions resulted in Boston running our winners by 4-1. Our goal scored by Paul Blakemore.

Next up were Long Bennington. Pretty controversial this game. At 0-0 the referee stopped the game with us attacking as their goalkeeper was injured from a rocket of a shot from Will a few seconds before. Once the injury was sorted the referee said loudly that he was giving a drop ball and will roll it back to Stamford as we had possession.

Martin flicked the ball to Taff, he stepped inside a defender (who did try to make a tackle) and smashed it into the net. 1-0 to the Strollers... but not quite yet.

One of their defenders starting to have a go at the referee saying he thought Taff was going to pass it back to their keeper. The referee initially stuck to his guns but then all the other Long Bennington players joined in and the referee caved in. Disallowed the goal and took the drop ball again. On the very next attack from Long Bennington they scored so we went from 1-0 to 0-1 in about 45 seconds.

We continued to dominate and had shot after shot but just couldn't score. Then some dawdling at the back resulted in Long Bennington scoring a sloppy second goal.

We pushed hard to chase the game and got one back when Taff scored but ran out of time to get an equaliser. Very disappointing and a loss thanks to a very poor refereeing decision in our opinion.

Squad: T Lovesey, A Walton, P Blakemore, B Dunkerley, W Barrett, M Lott, K Garbutt

L 1-4 Boston (P Blakemore)

L 1-2 Long Bennington (T Lovesey)
