Our Stroller Ladies continued their good form in their first season in the Lincolnshire league bringing home 6 points from Cherry Willingham.
Game 1: Strollers 1 Grimsby 2 (Kelby)
A tight game with both teams creating chances. Vicky France was called into action numerous times in the first half and played well, even so she was unable to prevent the Grimsby number 7 scoring with two well hit shots that saw Grimsby go in 2-0 up at the break.
Strollers responded strongly in the second half , but despite numerous shots at goal, we were only able to pull back a single goal when Merryn Kelby tucked away a shot in the bottom corner after winning the ball from the Grimsby defence.
Game 2: Strollers 5 Lincoln 0 (Kelby 2, Thirsk 2, Fowkes)
A repeat of the game from the last matchday that saw us throw away a 2-0 lead late in the game, the ladies were in no mood to repeat this and powered their way to the points.
Merryn Kelby opened the scoring for us after a pass through the middle from Jan Richardson. This was soon followed by her second as she hit a stinging shot from distance that was simply to hard for the keeper to hold.
The Strollers continued to push forward , and after Judith Jagger saw her shot strike the bar, a good move involving Kelby and Richardson, led to a Katy Fowkes goal to take us into a well deserved 3-0 lead. Merryn Kelby was also unlucky not to notch her hatrick in the first half when, once again, the shot rebounded high of the Lincoln cross bar.
There was no letting up from the Stamford team in the second half, and a short free kick from Kelby to Cath Thirsk resulted in her hitting the back of the Lincoln net for our fourth.
The fifth came soon after and showed the results of the hard work on the training ground, as Nessa Hardy won the ball and slipped it to Fowkes. She then played a pass to Kelby, who in turn fed Thirsk to notch her second goal of the game.
Strollers were now purring and Jagger came close a few more times before the final whistle.
Game 3: Strollers 3 Cleethorpes Yellow 0 A 3-0 walk over as Cleethorpes were unable to field a team.
A good days work from our ladies and we continue to go grow in strength as the weeks go by.
