The second matchday of the Lincs FA Walking Football League took place on 22nd August. In humid conditions the games were played at Lincs University.
Strollers 60+
Bolstered by the inclusion of Trevor Oliver in goal and Paul Marks on the pitch and captained inspirationally by Colin Kirby, the 60+ team played some excellent football and looked much more competitive than in matchday 1.
Their opening game was against Welton who were unbeaten. The guys turned on the style and goals fromDave Barry, two from Paul Marks and four for Lewis Tringham saw them run out 7-1 winners.
Next up were Gainsborough and the Strollers continued their high scoring streak with a 6-0 win. Goals came from Peter Crane, Dave Barry and four for Paul Marks.
This moved the team off the bottom to second in the table.
Squad: Colin Kirby (capt), Trevor Oliver (gk), Paul Marks, Lewis Tringham, Dave Barry, Peter Crane
W 7-1 v Welton Imps (L Tringham 4, P Marks 2, D Barry)
W 6-0 v Gainsborough (P Marks 4, D Barry, P Crane)
Strollers 50+
A disappointing evening for the 50+ side. Injury and unavailability took two of the squad that played superbly in matchday 1. Brian Dunkerley stepped up to the squad to fill the gap.
The first game was the top opf the table clash with Spilsby. The team started well and were 2-1 ahead when the first of two injuries struck with Martin Lott turning his ankle. Shortly afterwards Paul Blakemore was added to the injury list with a groin strain. The rythmn of the team was badly impacted and Spilsby fought back to win 5-2.
Martin and Paul soldiered on to the next game though where we faced bottom of the table Lincoln.
The Strollers continued to struggle and didn't play their usual slick passing to feet. Time and again they gave the ball away but fortunately had enough skill in the side to see the game out with a 6-4 win.
The better news for the Strollers was that Spilsby drew their next game with Long Bennington so the team is still tucked in second place a point behind the leaders.
Squad: Taff Lovesey (capt), Andy Walton (gk), Paul Blakemore, Martin Lott, Brian Dunkerley, Kurt Garbutt
L 2-5 v Spilsby (P Blakemore 2)
W 6-4 v Lincoln (T Lovesey 2, M Lott 4)
