Sunday 21st saw Stamford Strollers 50+ Squad make there way to the new AGP facility at Lincoln City Football Club to take part in the Lincolnshire FA Walking Football Festival. Strollers were drawn against four teams for a few hours of 6 v 6 walking football. The weather was perfect, a bit fresh but wonderful blue skies and sunshine on a near perfect new artificial pitch.
The squad consisted of:
Paul Newiss (Goalkeeper)
Jay Hellawell
Colin Barrett-Treen (Captain)
Phil Hall
Andy Malton
Grahame Robinson
Ian Scarborough
Jez Hammant
Match 1 was against Gainsborough Trinity where Stamford were a bit slow off the mark and lost 0-2.
Match 2 saw us play Boston United Poachers where we learned the lessons of the previous game to post a 2-0 win.
Match 3 saw Stamford play Sutton Sharks. A far better game seeing Stamford come from 1 nil down to lead 2 - 1 before letting in a last minute goal to draw 2-2.
Match 4 was against Louth Town but despite a spirited response from a fatigued Stamford saw us soundly beaten. Lost 0-3.
All 4 of Stamford Strollers 50+ matches were back to back with a few minutes between each game. Despite having 2 subs we felt the pace during the final match.
This was a great organised festival of football organised by Lincolnshire FA. I can speak for all Strollers who took part and say that we had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
