WED 18th April BOURNE
Today's Match day squad was: Bill Whittle GK, Paul Beard (c), Will Barrett, Glyn Williams, Steve Adcock & Frank Smith (who came along at the last minute to play due to an injury to Chris Keirl - much appreciated by the team.)
3 games today. First up:
Stamford Strollers 0 Sleaford 0
Stamford started well creating some good chances and had a few shots including one from Will that hit the post, then ran along the goal-line before being grabbed by the Sleaford GK. In the 2nd half both teams went looking for a goal but a resolute defence on both sides ensured the game finished a draw.
Stamford Strollers 0 Grimsby Corinthians White 1
Strollers came up against a well organised team and one of the favourites in the Premier League. An end-to-end game with both teams creating half chances. Bill W back in goal for Strollers made a brilliant save to deny Grimsby the lead.
In the 2nd half, both teams were trying to create an opening and when Stamford lost the ball in the middle of the pitch, a quick pass, some good footwork and a shot on the turn - Grimsby 1-0 up. With only 4 mins left Strollers tried to find a clear opening to score but to no avail.
Stamford Strollers 0 Boston 0
Another cagey game between our mates from Boston. Stamford struggled to find their tempo/movement throughout the game and looked tired as the game progressed. Steve A upfront worked his socks off trying to create opportunities and provide the offload for the midfield moving forward. Boston created a few good shooting chances and Bill W came to our rescue in goal producing another excellent save to keep the score 0-0. Both teams defended well throughout.
Great to have John Hutchins and Man of the Match Bill Whittle back in the team.
Not the best day at the office for Stamford Strollers, as we were against quality opposition in the Lincs Premier League.
Onwards and upwards to the next 3 League games at Lincoln next month.
